The big draw is low maintenance. The colour is mixed through the render, so there is nothing to paint and nothing to repaint. The silicone in the top coat makes the surface water-repellent, so rain beads and runs off rather than soaking in, and that same property helps it fend off the green algae and grime that dull an older finish. How the system is built up
Silicone render is a system, not a single coat, and each layer does a job:
- The background is prepared, with loose or blown material removed and a level base formed.
- A basecoat is applied and a fibreglass mesh is bedded into it for strength and crack resistance.
- Beads set the edges and clean lines around windows, corners and reveals.
- The through-colour silicone topcoat is floated on and textured to the chosen finish.
The texture and colour are picked before work starts, so you know what the finished wall will look like. Getting the basecoat flat and the mesh right is what makes the thin top coat sit well, so that stage is not rushed.
The finish and the tidy-up
The result is an even, contemporary finish in a colour that runs right through, ready to shrug off dirt and weather. Because there is no painting stage, the elevation is effectively done once the render has cured. Access is taken down at the end, the ground is cleared of washings and offcuts, and the property is left clean.

How much does silicone render cost?
It depends on wall size, access, the state of the existing surface and the basecoat needed underneath. Silicone sits above cheaper renders on price but saves on future repainting, and quotes are free.
Does silicone render need painting?
No. The colour runs all the way through the top coat, so there is no painting when it goes on and no repainting later. You choose the colour before work starts.
Is silicone render really self-cleaning?
It sheds water well and resists algae and dirt far better than old sand and cement, so rain keeps it looking fresh. On very shaded or damp elevations an occasional wash still helps.
Can silicone render go over pebbledash or old render?
Usually the old surface is prepared or a levelling basecoat is applied first to give a flat, sound background. Loose or blown areas are removed so the thin coat has something solid to grip.
Is silicone render breathable?
Yes, the system lets the wall release moisture while still shedding rain from outside, which suits many local properties better than a hard, sealed cement coat.
How long does silicone render last?
