What Kidsgrove homeowners say
Nearly every job we take on comes from a recommendation or a returning customer. These reviews were left by homeowners across Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Crewe and Stafford, after we had packed up and left the house clean.
Re-skimmed two bedrooms and the hallway. Immaculate work and left the place cleaner than they found it.
Ceiling came down after a leak. Boarded and skimmed in a day and you would never know.
Silicone render on the whole house. On site every morning on time, finish is spot on.
Micro cement in the bathroom, exactly what we wanted and priced fairly. Highly recommend.
Quoted quickly, turned up when promised and the walls are perfect. No mess left behind at all.
Full house replaster before we moved in. Great communication the whole way through.

Kidsgrove was built on coal and canals, and both still shape the housing. The older parts of town are workers’ terraces and historic rows, with Twelve Row still standing just above the Town Hall as a reminder of the colliery days. These are solid-walled homes, and after a century or more of weather and patching they tend to need honest repair work: blown plaster taken back, damp-affected areas made good, and finishes brought level again. A breathable, compatible approach usually beats a hard modern coat on walls this age.
Ground movement and cracking
What genuinely marks Kidsgrove out is its mining legacy. Local planning records openly reference past coal-mining activity and land instability, to the point where intrusive investigation and mitigation have been required before some development could go ahead. For a homeowner, that history shows up as cracking, at junctions, around openings, and across finishes. Filling a crack that is still moving just cracks again. The better answer is repair that accommodates a little movement, with the substrate prepared properly first, so the finish holds rather than reopening every winter.
Later semis and a changing town centre
Beyond the terraced rows, Kidsgrove has plenty of 1960s and 70s semis on the suburban estates. These bring their own list: tired or artexed ceilings that want overboarding and skimming, render repairs on exposed elevations, and patching after extensions and conversions where old meets new. The town centre itself has seen regeneration and public-realm work around King Street, so repair and renewal sit side by side here. Streets like Old Butt Lane, Heathcote Street and Liverpool Road cover much of that older-to-newer spread.

Questions
Plastering in Kidsgrove: common questions
My walls keep cracking, is it the old mines?
It can be. Kidsgrove has a recorded mining legacy and land-instability history, so cracks are best repaired with a bit of movement tolerance built in rather than just filled.
Do you repair ceilings in 1960s and 70s semis?
Yes. Later Kidsgrove semis often need cracked or artexed ceilings overboarded and skimmed, or full ceiling repairs after a leak.
Can you work on older workers' terraces?
Yes. The older solid-walled terraces near the Town Hall usually suit breathable, compatible repairs rather than hard modern coatings.
