Testimonials
Don't just take our word for it. Read what customers say.
Nearly every job we take on comes from a recommendation or a returning customer. These reviews were left by homeowners across Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Crewe and Stafford, after we had packed up and left the house clean.
Re-skimmed two bedrooms and the hallway. Immaculate work and left the place cleaner than they found it.
Ceiling came down after a leak. Boarded and skimmed in a day and you would never know.
Silicone render on the whole house. On site every morning on time, finish is spot on.
Micro cement in the bathroom, exactly what we wanted and priced fairly. Highly recommend.
Quoted quickly, turned up when promised and the walls are perfect. No mess left behind at all.
Full house replaster before we moved in. Great communication the whole way through.

Monocouche render is a traditional-feeling, through-colour finish applied in a single thick coat and scraped back to show an even, textured face. Rigby’s Plastering fits monocouche across Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire for owners who want a durable, decorative exterior without the ongoing job of repainting.
What makes monocouche different
The name simply means one coat. Where a painted sand and cement render needs a topcoat of masonry paint, and a silicone system is built from a basecoat plus a thin finish, monocouche does the protecting and the decorating in one material. The colour is mixed through, so once it is on and scraped the wall is finished.
That scraped texture is the signature. The render is laid to an even thickness, left until it has firmed to the right point, then dragged with a scratching tool to take off the surface skin and reveal a consistent grain underneath. Reading that timing correctly is where experience shows, and nearly a decade of rendering means Rigby’s knows when the wall is ready.
Where monocouche suits a property
Monocouche gives a solid, matt, slightly textured look that sits well on both older houses and newer builds. It is a common choice on the modern estates around Stone, Stafford and Congleton, and it works nicely for refreshing a dated elevation in one clean colour. Because it is a thicker cement-based coat, it likes a stable, well-prepared background, so the wall is assessed on the quote to check it is a good fit rather than assuming it.
How the work is carried out
- The background is prepared and any old, failed render removed.
- Beads and stop details are set to give straight edges and to control movement.
- The through-colour render is applied to an even thickness across the elevation.
- Once firm, the surface is scraped back to bring up the texture, then brushed down.
Doing a full elevation in one session keeps the colour and texture even, with no visible joins where one day’s work meets the next. When the render has cured, access is removed, the ground is cleared of scrapings and washings, and the property is left tidy.
Coverage runs across a roughly 30-mile radius from Stoke, taking in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Crewe, Nantwich and Uttoxeter. Quotes are free, and Rigby’s will say plainly whether monocouche, silicone or a painted render is the better call for your house.

Questions
Monocouche Render: common questions
What is monocouche render?
Monocouche means one coat. It is a through-colour render applied in a single thick layer, then scraped back once firm to reveal an even, grainy texture. The colour is built in, so there is no painting.
What is the difference between monocouche and silicone render?
Monocouche is a thicker, cement-based one-coat render with a scraped finish. Silicone is a thin-coat system over a meshed basecoat and is more flexible and dirt-resistant. Each suits different walls and budgets.
Does monocouche render crack?
Beads and expansion detailing are used to control where any movement goes, which keeps the face sound. Correct mixing, background prep and timing of the scrape all matter in avoiding cracks.
Does monocouche render need painting?
No. The pigment runs through the whole coat, so the colour you choose is the finished colour, with no painting when it is applied and none needed later on.
What colours does monocouche come in?
It comes in a wide range of standard through-colour shades, from soft whites and creams to greys and warmer tones. The colour is chosen from the range before the job starts.
How long does monocouche render take to cure?
It firms up enough to scrape within hours, then cures over several days. Damp or cold weather slows it, so timing the application and the scrape around the forecast is part of planning the job.
