Testimonials
Don't just take our word for it. Read what customers say.
Nearly every job we take on comes from a recommendation or a returning customer. These reviews were left by homeowners across Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Crewe and Stafford, after we had packed up and left the house clean.
Re-skimmed two bedrooms and the hallway. Immaculate work and left the place cleaner than they found it.
Ceiling came down after a leak. Boarded and skimmed in a day and you would never know.
Silicone render on the whole house. On site every morning on time, finish is spot on.
Micro cement in the bathroom, exactly what we wanted and priced fairly. Highly recommend.
Quoted quickly, turned up when promised and the walls are perfect. No mess left behind at all.
Full house replaster before we moved in. Great communication the whole way through.

Pebble dashing is one of the oldest external finishes still in daily use, and for good reason. The stone surface is tough, hides dirt and copes with weather with almost no upkeep. Rigby’s Plastering carries out pebble dashing across Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire, either as a fresh finish or as a repair matched into what is already there.
Fresh dashing or a matched repair
Two jobs come up most often. The first is a full elevation, where a wall is dashed from scratch to give a hard, textured finish that will shrug off the weather for years. The second is a repair, where a section has come away, been damaged or been disturbed by other building work, and new dashing has to blend into the surrounding wall.
Matching is the tricky part. The size and colour of the aggregate, and the way it is thrown, all affect how a patch reads against decades of weathered dash. Rigby’s matches as closely as the original allows so a repair settles in rather than shouting. On the mining-era terraces around Kidsgrove and the older housing across the Potteries, plenty of dashed elevations need exactly this kind of careful patching.
Wet dash and dry dash
There is more than one way to dash a wall:
- Dry dash, or roughcast on the surface, throws dry stone onto a freshly applied render coat so the pebbles bed into the face.
- Wet dash mixes the aggregate through the render and throws the whole mix on together, giving a rougher, very hard-wearing finish.
Which suits your wall depends on the look you are after and the existing finish if you are matching one. Both are set out on the quote so you can choose with the full picture.
How the job is done and left
The background is prepared first, with any loose or blown material taken off and a sound base coat applied to throw the dash onto. Edges, corners and reveals are beaded for clean lines. The dash is then applied evenly across the elevation, working in full runs to keep the texture consistent. Access is arranged so a wall can be finished without awkward joins.
Dashing is a messy trade by nature, so sheeting, ground protection and a proper clear-up are part of the job. When the work is done the property is left swept and tidy, with loose stone and washings cleared away.
Rigby’s covers a roughly 30-mile radius from Stoke, out to Alsager, Congleton and Stafford. Quotes are free and the advice is straight, including when rendering over old dash might serve you better than re-dashing.

Questions
Pebble Dashing: common questions
How much does pebble dashing cost?
Cost depends on the wall area, access, whether old dashing needs removing and how closely a repair has to match. Every elevation is priced on its own and quotes are free.
Can you match new pebbledash to an existing wall?
Often yes. The aggregate size and colour are matched as closely as the original allows so a repaired or extended area blends in. A perfect match is harder where the old dash has weathered for years.
What is the difference between wet dash and dry dash?
Dry dash is stone thrown onto a fresh coat of render so the pebbles sit on the surface. Wet dash mixes the aggregate into the render and throws the whole lot on together for a rougher, harder-wearing face.
Is pebbledash outdated?
It is a matter of taste. Some owners keep it for its hard-wearing, low-upkeep surface and to suit the street, while others prefer a smooth modern render. Rigby's fits both and will talk through the options.
Can you render over old pebbledash instead?
Yes, a smooth or silicone render can often go over sound pebbledash after preparation, which is a popular way to update a dated wall. See the rendering and silicone render pages for that route.
Does pebbledash need much maintenance?
Very little. The textured stone surface hides marks and copes well with weather. An occasional wash and prompt attention to any cracked areas is usually all it asks.
